6 x Albano is a show that gathers six award-winning photographers from the same family. Three were born in Fortaleza (brothers José and Maurício, and his son Ciro) and three were born in Rio de Janeiro (brothers Mario, Ricardo and Fernando). All cousins, the Albano’s and the Albano de Aratanha’s. Each one with his own view of Brazil and the world. All well-travelled, their eyes have seen all kinds of light.
This meeting has been touring Brazil (Ceará and Minas so far) and next year will land in Miami. Between the first and second show, curator Jeanne Duarte “discovered” the family’s fifth generation of photographers: Rita and Camilla Albano, and Leonardo Lepsch. So the show became 6xAlbano(+3).
About the show
6xAlbano mixes the movement of video with the frozen moment of a photograph. New software used by VJs gathers photos and microvideos and projects them on the main wall of the gallery. Three separate 9-minute loops with over 400 images are seen simultaneously in large format and high definition. Watching all these Albanos together on the same wall, the public will look for their differences and recognize their resemblances.
